BANGI: As part of its commitment towards enhancing employability in the rapidly changing era and Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) and Ministry of Education (higher education) organised a six-day Graduate Employability Industry 4.0 (GEI 4.0) programme at Hotel Tenera, here.

experiencing major changes which call for new abilities,” said MTDC chief executive officer, Datuk Norhalim Yunus.
“Graduates make themselves marketable by being flexible and developing skills beyond what they acquired in university,” he emphasised.
Held for the first time withMTDC, the national programme focused on training final-year students for the tech ecosystem.
“MTDC’s role is to identify and provide a platform for small and medium enterprises to participate in Industry 4.0, while institutions of MTDC develops Industry 4.0-ready graduates Progressive Development higher learning should concentrate on producing graduates who are ready for it,” said Norhalim.

graduates,’he added.
The event was officiated by the secretary general of the Education Ministry Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas,
“The programme will improve their employability and help them fill positions in tech companies backed by MTDC,” said Mohd Gazali.
He also urges industry players to employ the available graduates and nurture them to where they are required to be.
Some 315 undergraduates were given the opportunity to attend the programme which included an Industry Speed Dating component where interviews were conducted by 83 local tech companies looking to fill 200 positions.
Successful applicant Menachi Alp Rathakrishnan, a graphic design graduate from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan secured a job as a graphic designer after being interviewed by three different companies during speed dating session.
She told The Petri Dish “This programme taught me things that I didn’t know, provided me with very useful information and tips on how to face and dress up for job interviews.
“The trainer also helped me to develop an effective resume,” she added.
Successful interviewees would receive a six-month training stint and maybe a placement, too, if they excel at their work.
