Durians belong to the genus Durio zibethinus , also locally known as “King of Fruits”. Many people from Southeast Asia like Malaysians love to eat durian.

Using genetic studies, a group of researchers found that durians have essentially amplified “smelly gene,” which contributes to the production of sulphur related chemicals. With multiple copies of the gene, durian essentially had the capacity to focus a lot of its attention on becoming as stinky as it wanted.
