KUALA LUMPUR: The Sunway Nexis Mall in Kota Damansara came alive recently with a carnival “Love in Caring Hands”. The event aims to raise science awareness and interest among parents and children.
About 1500 parents and their children thronged the event jointly organised by Ganofarm R&D Sdn Bhd, VMS Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Bioeconomy Corporation, Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC) and Princeread Academy.
Ganofarm R&D CEO, Cheng Poh Guat said the carnival served as a platform for parents and children to interact and engage themselves in the many fun-filled learning activities.
“This is our effort to cultivate interest and instill love in science and technology among Malaysians. It is heartwarming to see parents and children come together and participate in this science event,” said Cheng. Cheng further said the event is set to take place on an annual basis.

Shatiri Mansor, Kota Damansara MP who officiated the event said the carnival provides opportunity for both parents and children to explore various science and technology concepts in a unique, informal learning ecosystem that nurtures curiosity and discovery. He applauded various players from industry, corporate, NGO, and academia who collaborated to make the carnival successful.
Speaking to The Petri Dish, he said the interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among the younger generation should be enhanced.
“Most of the time, children cannot relate what they learn at school with real life situations.
“At events such as this, they see the application of science and this can cultivate interest in science and place science as a priority at all levels in society.”
Cheng, who is a mushroom expert conducted mushroom vermiculture to cultivate mushrooms and highlight its benefit as a healthy diet. Various activities such as science exhibition, photo booths, free health checks, nutrition consultation, nutrition workshop, and parenting talks were also conducted during the event.
Cheng also presented award to young inventors for their innovative inventions such as moving recycle bin, green and guzzler system. A charity fund named “Love in Caring Hands” was also launched to help the needy including poor families, orphanages, disabled children, single mothers and others.
