Diamonds are formed when deposits of carbon are subjected to high pressure and temperature. The optimal pressure and temperature is found mostly underground layers of the earth that is known as continental plates.
Diamond can be found up to 140 kilometres beneath the surface of the planet whereas some have been discovered at depths of 300 kilometres as well. Presently, diamonds are made synthetically via a process that mimics the high pressure and temperature that is pivotal to production of diamonds.
