Astana expo hosts global dialogue on energy

ASTANA, Khazakhstan: Expo 2017 with the theme “Energy for the Future” has brought together over 115 countries and organisations to generate a global dialogue on the need to make a transition to green energy, tackle climate change and conserve natural resources while promoting societal progress.

Malaysia for the first time participated in the Expo with a Pavillion sponsored by Tenaga Nasional Berhad themed “Powering Green Growth”.

Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Wilfred Tangau, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) who led the delegation on Week 3 of the Expo said Malaysia is one of the world leaders in solar technology with several major manufacturers already operating in the country.

“Malaysia’s strategic location along the Sun Belt, makes solar energy one of the best alternative energies and a key contributor to our economy and we recognise this natural resource as a sector to be a leader of innovation in green technology,” said Tangau.

Expo Astana 2017 is running from June 10 till Sept 10.

Week 3 was led by Mosti where seven companies under its agencies were showcased and business matching was undertaken.

BioeconomyCorp played a pivotal role along with SIRIM and Malaysian Foundation for Innovation (YIM).

The seven companies, Ronser Biotech, Free the Seed, Nanopac, Cube Global, Caiser, Muhibbah Sinergia Resources and iCycle together inked five MoUs worth US$113 million with private and public sectors in Kazakhstan, India, China and Switzerland.   Zainal Azman Abu Kassim,

Project Director & Senior Vice President at BioeconomyCorp said he was impressed with the eagerness of Malaysian bio-based companies to capture the Central Asia market.

“We had close to 34,000 visitors at Malaysian Pavilion during the Green Innovation Week and a total of 20 business matching activities were hosted. We expect more collaborations and contract signing in the next few weeks as some of the companies are still finalising details of their collaboration,”said Zainal.

Nanopac’s CEO, Datuk Dr Cheng Kok Leong who signed an MoU with GC Global said:

“The collaboration between Nanopac and GC Global is focussed on territories of Kazakhstan, India, USA, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Germany and regions of Africa.GC Global will promote Nanopac’s Nanotechnology and Hybrid Solar System technologies in residential and commercial projects.”

Meanwhile, the Advisor of Ronser Biotech, Chua Peng Len who sealed agreements to upgrade Astana’s sewerage plants with KazBiotechnologies said this is the best business matching event he has attended.

“I foresee our collaboration spanning over six years and ranging from sewerage treatment to cleaning contaminated lakes and mining ponds.”

Malaysia’s participation at Expo 2017 in Astana was organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water together with its agency, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation.
