COMMUNICATING SCIENCE is not just about communicating the science of the technology, but also talking about policies, regulations, ethics, and religion and many other things that influence decision making. This is according to ISAAA Global Coordinator Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan. In her interview with Plantae, Arujanan discussed

Arujanan is also the executive director of the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre and the Editor-in-Chief of The Petri Dish, Malaysia’s first newspaper devoted to science stories.
The following are the key points of the discussion:
- It is an obligation of scientists to communicate science to society.
- Scientists should gain the trust of the public. In this way, it will be easier to promote and commercialize research products.
- Science should be tackled in mainstream conversations, such as other popular topics including politics, entertainment, and sports.
- Thus, the first step for scientists to be science communicators is to initiate discussions on science in conversations with family and friends, as well as in social media.
