THE Chief Executive Officer of the MalaysianTechnology Development Corporation (MTDC), Dato’ Norhalim Yunus told participants at a panel discussion that government agencies and the private sector must quit working in a silo ecosystem.

He said, they should instead come together as a united force and jointly pool their talents in order to gain better outcome on the projects that they are involved in. Norhalim said this as a panel member during a plenary session at the Industry4WRD Summit 2019 recently hosted in Kuala Lumpur.

by Zabedah Giw, Head of Global Advisory and Research Department at EXIM Bank discussed the necessity of capital investment for adopting the I4.0 revolution. Norhalim said MTDC or other government agencies can work together to help companies which are trying to move towards, or have adopted the I4.0 platform.

He said this in reply to a question from the floor, “How can government agencies help SMEs to adopt the I4.0 through various programmes, incentives and financing assistance?”

“There is no such thing as one superpower organism solving everything. I don’t believe in that. When we look at venture capital industries in the developed countries, they have different stages of investors coming in as well. One organisation taking care of everything is unheard of,’ he pointed out.

“That is the reason why we set up Centre of 9 Pillars (Co9P). We want to first get to know which are the indigenous companies approaching products and services for commercialisation. We need to know who are producing what. Otherwise, it will always be about the companies selling their products and that’s it.

“Going beyond we have to look at solving the challenges faced by industries rather than looking at solving individual problems,” he said, adding “for us to move as a nation, we need to look across the industry.”

He said each and every company has to move up. This is where everybody has to work together and we can actually look at what are the solutions available from the local companies for the small companies and what are the solutions available from the local and foreign companies for the bigger companies. Only when this is properly addressed can everyone move up together in unison.

Other panel members present were Azizi Mustafa, Head of Development Finance Division at Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), Ahmad Mochtar Hashim, Chief Business Officer Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB) and Azlan Mohd Agel, General Manager of Prokhas Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Berhad (SJPP). More than 200 participants attended the session.
