A SIMPLE theft can bother us a little too much. Good if we would detect and stop an intruder or a fire from happening immediately.
Dr Mohammad Hanif Saad, a senior lecturer from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, (UKM) has invented an intelligent system called CAISER to help pre-empt untoward events that are about to happen and enable mitigating actions at once.
This invention was part of his PhD project. It focused on surveillance systems, such as CCTV. He decided to further improve this safety system, one that could nip the problem in the bud.
CAISER consists of a [ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ] number of sensors – smoke sensors, door sensors, vibration sensors and, temperature and humidity sensors which detect certain occurrences and communicate them with cloud storage.
The data from the cloud storage will then decide if an action, for instance sending alert messages should be carried out without the need of human-to-human or human-to-computer interactions. A simple example is when the vibration sensor detects footsteps in a dark room at night. The sensor will go into action by alerting the house owner by sending a message via SMS, telegram or email.
According to Yap Zheng Yew, a graduate research assistant with the team, CAISER is now being widely used by Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNB) to execute network operations and monitor real-time performance in the company.
The Network Facility Monitoring system sends notifications to its technical teams when the computer network is expected to encounter problems. This prevents a glitch from happening as remedial actions can be taken immediately.
CAISER is also used in monitoring pump operations, vehicle tracking, vending machine telemetry and building operation systems.
CAISER has also expanded its market and is now widely used in Dubai through its marketing agency, Enomatrix Solutions Sdn Bhd.
Zheng Yew said his team is very delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase CAISER at MTDC’s exhibition. “We see this as a potential marketing strategy for CAISER,” he added. [/ihc-hide-content]
