In most cases when we meet someone, we tend to remember their face even if we forget their names. Unfortunately, some people tend to not recognise the people that they have met before. No, this is not because they were drunk[ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ] when they met the new people, but rather due to a neurological condition known as prosopagnosia.
It is also known as face blindness which refers to a severe deficit in recognising the face of familiar people. Face blindness often affects people from birth and is usually a problem a person has for most or all of their life.
Due to this, it can cause severe impact on everyday life. Prosopagnosia surprisingly is not related to memory dysfunction, memory loss, impaired vision, or learning disabilities.
Many people with prosopagnosia are not able to recognise family members, partners or even friends. They often use other ways to identify people, such as relying on voice, clothing, or unique physical attributes, but these are not as effective as recognising one’s face.
