OFFICERS from Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan (BTP) Kementerian Malaysia convened for a talk on science communications delivered by the National Science Centre (PSN) on July 6.
This is the first ever science communication programme held at BTP.
A total of 30 officers from the BTP participated in the half-day talk. Among the participants were senior school teachers and trainers who came from a wide array of schools in Malaysia.
[ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3,5″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ]The objective of the session was to give exposure to participants on science communication and how it can be implemented in schools.
The programme also aimed to elicit the creativity of teachers in delivering science information and activity to the public and students in more interesting ways. It is hoped that the programme would generate some ideas that can be integrated in school lessons.
The talk was then followed by a science activity session called “Straw Tower Challenge”.
Participants were introduced to science communications and its components such as his-tory and background of science communications, the scenario of science democracy in Malaysia and various methods of communicating science in schools.
Positive feedback was given during the talk and participants were actively engaged during the science activity session.
“Effective science communications is one of the ways to mould a better quality of generation so that Malaysia is on par with other developed countries” said Norzilawati Md Kamsor as one of the speakers.
Mohd Fazli Mat Akar, the programme manager and participant of the talk expressed his gratitude in having such pro-gramme with the PSN.
“This sharing session is tremendously beneficial to the participant in enhancing their knowledge of science communications in the effort to acculturate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among the public-at-large”.
BTP and PSN are hoping that more of such programmes can be held in the future.
