AS we all know a cat is considered to be a strict carnivore. However, have you seen a cat eating grass? Is this not harmful to the cat?
The answer is absolutely no. It might seem like strange behaviour especially when the cat throws up the grass afterwards. There is really nothing to worry about. There is no evidence to suggest that grass will harm cats. In fact, many experts theorise munching on green grass can be beneficial to the cats.[ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ]
Cats regurgitate or vomit when they eat grass because they lack necessary enzymes to break down vegetable matter. This up-chucking sensation may eliminate all indigestible matter from the cat’s digestive tract, making it feel a whole lot better. This is important because cats eat their prey as is, including both the edible and inedible parts such as fur, bones, feathers, etc.
Besides, the juices in grass contain folic acid. This is an essential vitamin for a cat’s bodily functions and assists in the production of hemoglobin, the protein that moves oxygen in the blood.
Another theory is that grass acts as a natural laxative, counteracting any cases of indigestion. So, ingesting grass is not actually a bad thing!
