What Is a Faraday Cage?

Have you ever seen lightning strike during a thunderstorm and wondered how people inside cars or planes stay safe? That’s because of something called a Faraday Cage!

Faraday Cage is not a real cage like the ones animals live in. It is a special kind of shield made from metal that blocks electricity and radio waves from getting inside.

It is a structure made of metal that blocks electric fields and electromagnetic waves from passing through it. It’s named after the scientist Michael Faraday, who discovered this effect in 1836.

Here is how it works. When an electric charge hits the cage, the electrons in the metal move around and spread out. This cancels out the electric field inside the cage. That means anything inside the cage stays safe, because electricity and signals cannot get through.

It works for lightning, radio waves, and even Wi-Fi signals!
