What is hematidrosis?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

OUR sweat is clear and salty. It is produced by glands in our skin. Sweating helps our body to regulate our body temperature. But have you ever heard about sweat blood, bloody sweat or droplets of blood as sweat? Hematidrosis is an extremely real rare [ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3,5″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ] condition in which a person will sweat blood without any cut or injury on the skin. The blood sweat often happens on any surface of the body. This commonly happens on the face and the forehead. It may occur when a person is suffering from extreme stress, anxiety or intense fear. The thought is that during high stress, tiny blood vessels in the skin break open or capillaries can rupture causing the blood inside them to get squeezed out through sweat glands, then out onto the skin. In other cases, hematidrosis may be a symptom of a medical condition like high blood pressure. The occurrence of hematidrosis is infrequent but eventually several episodes will be experienced per day. The bleeding usually stops after some time without treatment. There is usually no history or evidence of self-laceration or other injury. [/ihc-hide-content]
