Where is the world’s largest active volcano?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

THE ever famous tourist vacation spot, Hawaii, is home to the world’s largest volcano, Mauna Loa. To date, the lava produced by this enormous volcano piled up to a height of 13 680 ft above sea level.

From its base (below sea level) to summit, Mauna Loa measures to about 56 000 ft (approximately 17 000m) in height, making it the highest mountain on Earth, yes, even higher than Mount Everest. In fact, this massive volcanic mountain is so massive that its colossal weight has bent the Earth’s crust 8 000m downwards towards the mantle![ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”show” ihc_mb_who=”2,3,5″ ihc_mb_template=”1″ ]

Astonishing, isn’t it? In addition, being an active volcano, Mauna Loa has been reported to have erupted 33 times, where the first eruption took place in 1843 and the latest one in 1984, from March 25th till April 15th.

Although it’s been silent for a while now, scientists do believe a new eruption will take place in due time.
