Supporting Investors in Selangor’s Life Sciences Industry
Invest Selangor recently hosted a networking event through the Selangor Biotechnology Coordination Office (S-BIOCO). The event offered a detailed overview of the services provided to support investors in Selangor. These initiatives aim to connect stakeholders and emphasize the region’s growing life sciences ecosystem.
S-BIOCO’s services include crucial information on the investment process. Additionally, they assist with application approvals and help investors with site selection. Furthermore, S-BIOCO focuses on promoting four industries: Medical Technologies, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, and Cosmetics, Personal Care, and Toiletries.[ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=”block” ihc_mb_who=”unreg” ihc_mb_template=”3″ ]
Key Programs to Uplift Bio-Startups
One of the key initiatives is the Selangor Accelerator Program, a three-month program designed to prepare bio-startups for investment. Moreover, the Selangor Lab Partnership Program supports collaborations between companies and research institutions, enhancing both business and research efforts.
In addition, S-BIOCO offers an Investment and Business Consultancy service, providing regulatory guidance, market insights, and matchmaking opportunities for local and foreign businesses.
Upcoming: BioSelangor Portal and SLC 2024
Looking ahead, S-BIOCO is set to launch the BioSelangor Portal. This platform will integrate various resources related to Selangor’s life sciences industry.
Similarly, the upcoming Selangor Life Sciences Convention (SLC) 2024, happening from October 16 to 19 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), will gather over 60 participants. It will provide a platform for showcasing innovations, products, and services from Selangor’s companies, startups, and institutions.
Strategic Networking and International Delegations
At SLC 2024, attendees will benefit from knowledge exchange, strategic networking, and exciting investment opportunities. Moreover, international representatives will be part of a hosted delegation program, enjoying complimentary hotel stays and airport transfers.
Malaysia’s Milestones in the Medical Devices Industry
During the event, Yusni Md Yusop, Senior Deputy Director of Life Sciences and Medical Technology at MIDA, discussed Malaysia’s achievements in medical devices, particularly in Selangor. Since the 1980s, Malaysia has progressed from producing rubber-based products like medical gloves to advanced intervention products in the 2020s.
Leading Innovators in Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals
Yusni highlighted innovative companies, such as St. Jude Medical Operations M Bhd, known for cardiovascular and neuromodulation technologies, and Boston Scientific, which excels in manufacturing biopsy forceps and laser fibers.
Additionally, Yusni praised Pharmaniaga and Hovid for their contributions to the pharmaceutical sector. Pharmaniaga specializes in sterile small-volume injectable drugs, while Hovid produces affordable generic medicines.
The New Industrial Master Plan 2030
Finally, Yusni introduced the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030), which will drive further innovation and investment in Malaysia’s medical devices and pharmaceutical industries. This plan positions Selangor as a global hub for life sciences and medical technology.
